Common Ravens at Barre Falls Dam

Picture
Common Ravens have nested at Barre Falls Dam for several years. They are early nesters; one of the pair, presumably the female, was seen only briefly on April 1st. It is likely she was on the nest incubating while her mate was standing watch.

When the sentinel bird, probably the male, is approached, he elicits a somewhat musical call which seems to be a "reassurance" contact call to the nearby--although unseen --female.
